Dr. Paul Swingle – Dr. Swingle’s Seizure Disorders Webinar

Trauma can have significant effects on the health of individuals, in terms of general health and cognitive efficiency. In this 1-hour webinar recording, Dr Swingle discusses trauma as it is implicated in conditions such as post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), severe anxiety, sleep disturbances, depression and pseudo-seizures (seizure activity as a mechanism to protect the individual from the emotional pain). Client cases using the ClinicalQ assessment, trauma markers and neurotherapeutic training will be used to demonstrate the effect trauma and successful treatment can have on an individual’s brainwaves. In this presentation, Dr. Swingle will state which therapeutic interventions should and should NOT be used on traumatized individuals. This includes the avoidance of therapies that teach emotional blunting, learning “how not to feel” and “re-living every detail of the moment(s) in order to process the event”.

It is important to remember that when we discuss “trauma”, we are not only referring to sensational experiences that one might imagine seeing in a dramatic or disturbing movie. Trauma is often based on a long term exposure to negative life experiences, such as loneliness, being raised by severely depressed parents, daily bullying or abuse over months. Individuals often don’t imagine their own experiences as “traumatic” even though the effects for such extended periods of time are visible in terms of brain’s activity.

Note: All views expressed in the recording are solely those of the presenters and participants and not those of the BFE.
